Cooper City Florida

Cooper City, Florida is located in southwest Broward County.  With a population of approximately 30,000, Cooper City, FL is a small residential community in Southeast Florida. The city is west of Hollywood, FL, north of Pembroke Pines, Florida south of Davie, Florida and Plantation, FL, and a short commute to the metropolitan centers of Fort Lauderdale, FL and Miami, FL.   With a median family income of approximately $78,172, Cooper City Florida has a large middle class. Cooper City, FL features a strong sense of community, numerous parks and recreational facilities and top-rated schools. 

The community was named for Morris Cooper, who founded the community in 1959, after selling the Imperial Shirt Company for $3.5 million. Cooper City, FL has been designated "Tree City, U.S.A." because of the abundance of planting programs carried out over the years.  Five schools are found within the city limits of Cooper City including Cooper City Elementary, Embassy Creek Elementary, Griffin Elementary, Pioneer Middle, and Cooper City High School.  All have ranked relatively highly in state and nationwide evaluations and tests.  Cooper City sits just a few miles southwest of the Davie, FL’s South Florida Educational Center, which includes several nationally known institutions including the main campuses of Nova Southeastern University (NSU) and Broward Community College (BCC), and satellite campuses for the University of Florida, Florida International University (FIU), and Florida Atlantic University (FAU).  

The Cooper City Parks and Recreation Department offers numerous fitness activities for families and individuals. The Brian Piccolo Park in Cooper City, Florida is the site of one of the best cricket grounds in the United States, and in 2004 hosted the first-class cricket match between the United States cricket team against Canada for the ICC Intercontinental Cup. The park also is the location of one of the few cycling tracks in South Florida, and also accommodates a distinguished skateboard park.
